diary - day 231
Not sure on a format for these. Guess that will evolve.
Today:
- Squashin' a nasty API storm bug discovered on Friday that could be pretty disruptive to users
- Silly comment from a manager about this and how the service we call isn't needed; 'Just query the db'. No.
- Getting some ducks in a row for a project I'm managing. Giving an update on it later to stakeholders
- Rolling out early-access for two new features
- Pruning dead code - Finally hit the deprecation date on the APIs. Turning that off!
Thoughts & feelings:
- Was challenged on why the dead-code APIs were still there by a coworker who often feels a bit degrading when they talk.
- Pissed me off a little. I'm being cautious, which we never are enough, and I've been pulled left, right and centre every day for the past ~150.
- I think he needs to work on how he communicates, personally.
- Proud of smashing out two decent-sized features last week.
- It's a nice feeling, I rarely get to because I'm usually pulled into a bunch of silly things. Just don't usually have the time capacity - nothing about capabilities.
- Writing this from the café downstairs, it's nice to change the environment when in the office.
- I'm feeling a little stressed about this project update later. First one, after having about two weeks to wrap my head around what is going on (it's a shit show tbh).
- Never managed a project of this scale before!
- Looking forward to some bouldering tonight.
